Welcome to the Wilco Relay.
This amazing events takes place each July and is a 10 Leg Relay Race around the Island of Efate for 10 runners.
The 2012 Event will occur on the 21st of July.
There are several categories to enter from the serious to the social runners who are there to be part of a special event.
There are a range of distances from the legs at the beginning which are shorter but contain hills to the longer flatter sections at the finish.
When you're not running you travel close to your team on a bus to support them along the way.
"I have been bringing teams from Sydney since 2001 to participate in the Vanuatu Island Relay. It has become one of the greatest highlights of my life, as it is an opportunity to run, trot, or walk in an event that is so unique, in one of the most beautiful places in the world. Every single one of our team members (and there has been x over the years) has raved about the experience of the Relay Day. The fact you get to run through tropical jungles and along picturesque beaches with noone else in your sights is truly special. And not to mention all the wonderful villages that you pass through. The ni-Vanuatu are out clapping and cheering you on and have made their stretch of the road gorgeous with palm fronds and bougainvillaea. There is such an amazing companionship between all teams, and lifetime friendships end up being formed.
In 2010 when the crew from Event Logic took over the event, the behind the scenes organisation went to another level. In previous years, there always seemed to be lots of 'problems', but not anymore. The correspondence prior to getting to Vila, the actual Race Day organisation, and also the post-relay social events have made this incredible Island Relay something that everyone should do at least once in their life."
