2011 Info

Written by Troy Spann on 13 March 2011.

July 21st 2012 will see the third running of the Wilco Relay. The Wilco Relay is the revamped popular Round Island Relay.

Teams of 10 runners run a relay around the island of Efate over various distances from 12 to 16 km’s and over varying inclines from the very steep Klem’s Hill to the flat section around Eton.

During training for Inaugural race one runner’s from the eventual winning team from Island Property was tragically struck by a vehicle and killed.

A Perpetual Trophy in his honour will be presented to the winning Male Team which will be the Pierre Paul Cup.

The 2011 Premier Men's event was marred by alegations of cheating and required a re-run.  Strict measures that were developed for the re-run will be mandatory for future runnings, chiefly only one vehicle following the runner at a distance of 100m, exclusion zones around the Change-over points.
